3 Shower Hardware Options for Your Bathroom

3 Shower Hardware Options for Your Bathroom

15th Oct 2024

Metal components are used throughout a bathroom – sink faucet, toilet paper holder, shower door handle, and so on. These pieces of hardware are typically available in assorted finishes, and the finish (or finish es if you’re doing mixed metals) you choose does a lot toward defining the room’s style and overall feel. Three of the most popular finishes today are brushed nickel, satin brass, and matte black. We’ll explore each of these choices and the impact they’ll have on your space.

Brushed Nickel – Timeless and User Friendly

Brushed nickel has been popular for quite some time, but it has staying power. It’s one of those classics whose trendiness may wax and wane, but which may never really go out of style. Brushed nickel hardware is user friendly because its brushed (rather than glossy) surface can camouflage fingerprints, smudges, and water spots. In an aesthetic sense, you may find that hardware in this silvery tone has one or more of the following traits:

  • Cools the room’s color temperature
  • Promotes a relaxing vibe, especially when paired with pale wall paint
  • Enhances modern design and décor
  • Works well on installations that are vulnerable to water droplets, such as hinges or a door pull inside the shower enclosure.

  • Matte Black – On Trend but Classic

Matte black hardware has also been hot for a number of years now. However, since black is a neutral, it’s also classic and not such a daring choice. Matte black is usually paired with clear glass, and sometimes the glass is even framed in black U-channels (click here to see this product) and decorated with black grille-work.

Dark hardware forms a nice contrast to the lighter elements found in many bathrooms, such as white tiled walls and white appliances. It’s great for styles like modern farmhouse, Japandi, quiet luxury, cottage, and modern organic.

However, if you have hard water, it is likely to leave spots on dark hardware. Since it’s now fashionable to use 2 or 3 different finishes in one bathroom (mixed metals), you can install matte black pieces away from droplets and go with something like brushed nickel around water.

Satin Brass – A Touch of Glamour

More recently, metallics in the gold family have seen an uptick, with satin brass leading this trend. In decades past, polished brass became very much in vogue, but many designers and decorators today prefer something a bit softer. Satin brass may impact your space by:

  • Raising the room’s color temperature
  • Adding a touch of luxury to the shower and surrounding area
  • Creating a more spa-like ambiance

  • To optimize the opulent effect of brass hardware, you may wish to choose a more decorative shower pull – click to see an example – or even a chandelier over the tub.
