5 Reasons to Switch from a Curtain to a Shower Door
3rd Dec 2024
If you’re working on a new build, renovating your bathroom, or just giving it a makeover, you’ll have to decide between a shower curtain and a glass enclosure. While both have their appeal, there are a number of reasons to go with glass instead of a cloth or vinyl curtain. Let’s look at some of them.
1. Some glass shower enclosures require no more space than a shower curtain.
One thing shower curtains have going for them is their space efficiency because they don’t need any special clearance around the shower entrance. However, thanks to frameless sliding door systems you can enjoy this same space efficiency but with the upgraded look of glass and metal. So even if you have another fixture right next to the shower, a glass enclosure is probably feasible for you.
2. Shower glass is more fashion forward than a curtain and rod combo.
Browse home decorating articles and you’ll see far more glass installations compared to curtains. If you want to maximize the beauty and stylishness of your new or revamped bathroom, don’t stop with half measures like buying an expensive new curtain. A glass splashguard, door, or enclosure elevates a space and instantly brings it more in sync with today’s decorating modes.
3. Glass can be easily cleaned and sanitized in a way that a shower curtain cannot.
We’ve all seen curtain liners encrusted with pink bacteria or cloth curtains infested with mold or mildew. This is unsightly, a possible health concern, and a real downer for the look and feel of your bathroom. However, glass does not absorb moisture, fungus, and bacteria. Keep the following tips in mind to make a glass shower as easy to care for as possible:
4. A frameless clear glass shower enclosure makes a bathroom look larger.
Many of us own a bathroom that is not quite as spacious as we’d like. However, one of the best ways to make any room look bigger is to introduce transparent materials into the design. If you replace an opaque curtain with a see-through barrier, the bathroom instantly seems larger because the shower area is now visually integrated into the bathroom. The clear glass also includes your shower tile in the bathroom’s aesthetic, rather than keeping it blocked from view behind a curtain. On glass showers of old, all of these positive effects were lessened by the clunky aluminum framing around every piece of glass. However, frameless enclosures are made almost completely of clear glass with small metal pieces like wall-mount or glass-to-glass clamps.
5. Glass shower enclosures can be customized to fit your practical needs and interior design tastes.
Glass showers can be built in different ways and with different features. For example, a walk-in shower has an open entryway; paired with a curbless shower entrance, this gives a stall improved accessibility. Likewise, you can tailor the glass to how the space is used. You may want to create a roomy, open ambiance by using clear glass in your primary bathroom, but privacy glass makes more sense in a bathroom shared by siblings. The metal components, too, can be personalized in terms of style and finish, and these choices should be made thoughtfully since the hardware gives an enclosure much of its distinctive character.
