During winter we’re all about making our living space as cozy as possible, but as summer approaches you might feel more in the mood for a cool vibe. We’ll look at how to make your bathroom’s actual temperature, color temperature, and overall look more “cool” for summer 2025.

1. Keep your bathroom cool and fresh.

To begin with, make sure your air conditioning is performing at its best. Doing regular maintenance is important, such as:

• Change air filters
• Make sure the outdoor unit is clean and not encumbered by plant growth
• Inspect vents and vacuum out as needed
• Check for drafts around windows and seal if present

In some bathrooms, especially if you don’t have central air, you might also want to bring in a small fan.

Spring and summer are also perfect times for introducing cool tones that will lower the room’s color temperature. For example, the mixed metals trend means that it’s just fine to bring chrome or nickel into a bathroom where a black or gold based finish is already present. Finishes in the silver family – like polished chrome and brushed nickel – are ideal for bringing a sense of cool and calm to a space. You could replace your glass shower’s pull handle with a chrome or nickel one that works with your glass thickness and the holes already fabricated in the glass. You could also add storage with glass wall shelves attached with nickel or chrome clamps.

 

3. Give the room a fresh and airy feel.

With cool air and cool colors, you can still give your space cool vibes by creating a fresh and airy ambiance. Possibilities include:

• Visually opening up the space by replacing an opaque shower curtain with clear glass and sleek metal.
• Replacing heavy curtains with lighter and more translucent window treatments.
• Updating some of the wall hangings and knick-knacks with spring or summer themed items.

 

4. Replace heavy textiles with lighter options.

Plush terrycloth towels can be nice for creating a cozy atmosphere in a bathroom, but it’s appealing to use something more summery in the warmer months. Two great options are:

• Linen towels – Both breathable and absorbent, linen is a timely choice for summer bathroom décor
• Turkish cotton towels – Turkish cotton is soft and absorbent, and it actually gets softer with each wash.

You can also replace thick rugs with simple woven mats to enhance the effect. On a side note, keep the season in mind when choosing hand soap scents and air fresheners!

 

5. Make your decorating “cool.”

Last but not least, you can make the space truly “cool” by bringing it up to speed with the latest interior design trends. Tips include:

• Loading up on live potted plants.
• Using natural materials whenever possible.
• Including curved silhouettes and profiles.
• Setting up the bathroom with health and wellness in mind.
