7 Ways to Make Your Shower More Like a Home Spa
11th Nov 2025

The shower area is often the most prominent part of the bathroom, so elevating the experience of using your shower can give you a home spa feel that enhances relaxation and renewal. In today’s piece, we’ll go over changes large and small that will give your shower area touches of spa-inspired luxury.
1. Add an aromatherapy kit to your shower head.
For a quick and inexpensive upgrade, order and install an aromatherapy kit that will allow you to enjoy the scent of your favorite essential oil as you shower. Different smells can help us feel energized, promote feelings of calm, and so forth, so why not put this fact to work in your space?
2. Replace an old set of bypass doors with a modern frameless slider.
A clunky out of date shower door definitely takes away from any home spa day. Instead of framed doors that move noisily in tracks, consider a frameless rolling shower door system like one of these. With reduced metal components, a clear unframed shower enclosure is perfect for showing off pretty tile or stone on your shower walls.
3. Replace your shower head.
An old shower head may not function properly, and it might look bad due to water spots, mineral buildup and the like. You can improve your daily shower with a new shower head that offers a rain-style experience or has lots of different spray options.
4. Add a handheld.
Another project that many homeowners can DIY is adding a handheld spray. While this may not be quite as luxurious as body jets installed in the shower wall, it offers much of the same functionality and at a much lower price point.
5. Replace a shower curtain with an in-line door and panel enclosure.
If your shower is still enclosure with a curtain and liner, you can dramatically improve it by removing the rod, curtain, and liner and putting in an in-line glass enclosure instead. For this configuration a glass door is hinged either to the bathroom wall or to the piece of fixed glass that is installed next to it.
6. Have a heated floor put it.
After relaxing in a hot shower, nothing kills the vibe like stepping onto freezing cold tiles. If you’re ready for a more substantial remodel, consider electric radiant or hydronic heated flooring. On the other hand, if this is beyond what your budget allows, you can settle for a new plush bath mat instead!
7. Replace, maintain, or upgrade shower door components.
For a spa-like feel, everything in your shower area needs to be in good working order. Issues like leaks or squeaky hinges definitely detract from any relaxing hot shower! One step in preventing leaks is replacing vinyl seals and wipes that have deteriorated. Squeaky hinges, on the other hand, can often be fixed with a few drops of multi-purpose oil applied near the nylon washer. Finally, you could upgrade a plain pull handle with a ladder style pull or another more decorative option like this.
