Cluttercore Aesthetic for the Bathroom?

Cluttercore Aesthetic for the Bathroom?

10th Feb 2026

The cluttercore aesthetic is similar to maximalism but more personal and more emotional. Like their maximalist counterparts, cluttercore spaces have a “more is more” vibe and tend to be colorful and eclectic. However, cluttercore puts a lot of emphasis on what fills your space. Everything should be meaningful, so collections, souvenirs, photos, and homemade pieces are all superb choices. If you’re tired of your minimalist, model home style bathroom, it might be time for a cluttercore makeover, so we’ll look at several ways to give this colorful aesthetic a try.

Create More Room for Displays

Even a small bathroom can be transformed by cluttercore, but you might need to add some surfaces on which to display your treasures. Clear glass shelves on metal brackets in the same finish as your shower door hardware are a wonderful choice. For one thing the clear glass helps prevent your small space from feeling overfilled and keeps the focus on your featured items. Other possibilities for giving yourself more display options include:

  • Hanging baskets
  • A vintage corner cabinet
  • Creative use of existing surfaces like window ledges and the top of the commode tank

Even the interior of the shower can be transformed into a showcase if you trade in your shower curtain or obscure glass doors for clear swinging or sliding shower doors. Then load up shower shelves, recessed niches, and/or the tub ledge with more special items. If the stall is roomy, a shower stool can be added to create still more possibilities.

Try a Gallery Wall

One potential challenge to pulling off cluttercore in a bathroom is making sure the room remains functional and convenient. However, you can include elements of this look without cluttering the vanity top, and a gallery wall is an excellent example. If you collect mirrors, vintage art, photos from family vacations, etc., it’s easy to hang these on a bathroom wall in a tasteful collage. You can also turn some other types of collections into wall hangings with fairly little effort. For example, you could frame home decor magazine covers, your kids’ artwork, squares of vintage fabric or wallpaper, the options go on and on. Even plates, doilies, and placemats can be turned into wall art and featured in a gallery wall. To double the impact of your collection, have a custom wall mirror installed opposite it and enhance the cluttercore feel.

Merge Cluttercore and Biophilic Design

Maybe you’re not a collector per se, but as long as you appreciate plants and flowers, an authentic cluttercore bathroom can still be yours. In fact, this approach merges the cluttercore aesthetic with the biophilic design trend that brings outdoor elements indoors. Adorn bathroom surfaces with potted plants and/or vases of flowers for a personalized space that feels fresh and healthful.

Not sure where to start? This Plant In article suggests types of greenery that flourish in bathroom and even shower stall conditions to help you ensure success. Once you’ve selected your flora, you can give your flowers and plants more unique charm by using items you already have and love for the pots and vases. While you might need vessels with drainage holes for growing plants, many containers can be repurposed as vases – pitchers, jugs, wine bottles, mugs, and more.
