Custom Glass and the Perfect Hardware Can Elevate Your Bathroom

16th May 2025

If you want your old bathroom to look more like something from a home décor blog and less like a trip back in time, custom glass can help! We’ll explore four distinct options for improving a bathroom in this way. Use one, all, or a couple of these ideas to spruce up your bathroom or bring it more in line with modern décor principles.

A New Glass Shower Enclosure

Many homeowners will elevate a dated bathroom by taking down the old shower curtain and putting in a glass barrier. If you’re tight on space around the shower area, a frameless sliding shower door system can be a great solution. On the other hand, if there is adequate clearance for a swinging door, you can install one on wall mount or glass-to-glass hinges. In this case, you will likely have a fixed panel held in place with clamps next to the door panel. French doors, neo angle corner showers, and right angle corner showers are additional options. If you use clear glass, the new enclosure will also make the space look bigger than it did when the shower area was hidden away behind a curtain.

A Vanity Mirror Upgrade

Next, we’ll turn to the sink area. A relatively quick fix to a boring or out of style sink area is to upgrade the vanity mirror. If its currently small, damaged, or builder-grade, switching to a specialty or custom item will make a big difference. For example, clipped circle and half circle mirrors have become popular and instantly modernize the room. Other shapes to consider include:

  • arch
  • diamond
  • large circle
  • trapezoid

You could also have a custom mirror installed that covers a large area of wall space above the sink and doubles as a tool for making the room feel more spacious.

Create Storage and Display Options

Floating glass shelves can be installed on your bathroom walls using metal clamps or other supports. Clear glass shelves provide you with usable surfaces, but they preserve a more open feel since they are transparent. This shelving opens up two appealing possibilities:

  • Wall shelves offer more options for storing bathroom items neatly while keeping them handy. You can make this even more effective by stocking the shelves with cute containers where you can stash things out of sight.
  • On the other hand, glass shelving can serve a purely decorative purpose by providing a surface on which to create a display or vignette. This is a wonderful option for drawing the eye away from a bathroom’s less desirable features.

Hide the Toilet

A commode is a very necessary part of a bathroom, but it’s usually not the most attractive. (Unless it’s one of these insanely expensive specialty items.) So if you’re not in the market for a gold toilet, you might want to tuck it away behind a screen made of obscure glass. Not only will this keep the potty from negatively impacting the room’s design, but the screen itself can be a thing of beauty.
