Glass and Hardware Are for More than Just Shower Enclosures

Glass and Hardware Are for More than Just Shower Enclosures

29th Oct 2024

Did you know that the glass and hardware components used on frameless glass shower enclosures can be used to build other custom glass structures as well? While glass showers might be what come to mind first, don’t limit yourself to this option. Maybe custom glass and hardware could benefit your home in one of the following ways as well.

1. Create a separate toilet room.

While it may be the most important bathroom appliance, the commode is also the fixture we tend to be least excited about in terms of design and aesthetics. Some homeowners are solving this with custom glass, clamps, and hinges. Acid-etched glass and patterned glass both provide some privacy within the toilet room and keep the potty out of sight. Design possibilities include:

  • A single fixed piece of glass that forms a privacy screen
  • Multiple pieces of glass and an open entrance
  • A fully enclosed space with a swinging glass door

  • 2. Opt for a glass wine “cellar.”

Another up and coming trend takes the form of wine rooms built from clear glass. Instead of tucking your collected vintages away in an actual cellar, you can store them in style in a clear glass wine room. In this way your wines do double duty as a decorative focal point. Fixed glass can be held in place by clamps and/or U-channels (see examples here). On a wine room, French doors are often installed and operate on glass to glass hinges like these. The look is finished off with your choice of pull handle.

    3. Replace a standard interior door with a glass alternative.

You can upgrade any space by replacing its standard interior door with glass. Depending on the width of the doorway or entrance, choose a single hinged glass door or a set of double doors (French doors). If you simply need to divide the spaces but want to keep visual continuity, go with clear or ultra clear glass. Alternatively, you can a create some privacy between the two rooms with patterned, acid-etched, or tinted glass.

    4. Give your home office space some privacy.

A glass screen is not just for hiding the toilet. You can also hide behind one when working from home! Out of sight, out of mind? You can put this to the test by using privacy glass to separate your remote workspace from the surrounding room. This can help reduce interruptions as well as distractions. It’s also nice to clearly walk away from your “office” at the end of the day and mentally leave work behind.
