Tips and Tricks for Beautifying Each Part of Your Bathroom

Tips and Tricks for Beautifying Each Part of Your Bathroom

10th Apr 2024

Is there one aspect of your bathroom that you hate? (Or maybe more than one?) We’ll go through the bathroom, from area to area, offering home decorating tips and tricks for a DIY glowup of this space. Our hacks range from no-cost improvements to more spendy upgrades, so there’s something here for every budget.

Improving the Toilet Area

It’s fitting to start with the appliance that is most fundamental to a bathroom – and also a decorator’s least favorite! If your space and budget allow, you may wish to simply hide the commode behind a screen of obscure glass or even have a separate water closet constructed around it. However, if this isn’t feasible, try one of these less dramatic upgrades.

  • Install glass shelves on metal clamps on the wall behind the toilet and decorate them with a few vignettes interspersed with plenty of negative space.
  • Purchase a cute portable toilet paper holder that also stores extra rolls.
  • Add a scent kit to the toilet bowl or put an essential oil toilet spray on the back of the commode.

  • Shower Area Makeover

Next we’ll look at the shower, a large fixture that significantly impacts your bathroom’s appearance and ambiance. An easy and practically free hack is to simply declutter the shower and give it a good cleaning. Don’t overlook these frequently missed spots:

  • grout lines between the tiles
  • shower head (may have water spots or other buildup)
  • inside the track of a bypass door
  • the metal apparatus on a frameless slider
  • floor trim along the outside of tub/shower combo

  • If your shower is enclosed by clear glass, you can also transform it by styling its interior. Declutter the stall and transfer hair and body care products to matching decanters that enhance your bathroom’s chosen theme. Include a designer touch such as a teak stool or a live plant. Finally, if the enclosure itself looks a bit dated, you can replace the existing door knob, pull handle, or towel bar with a new product that is compatible with your glass thickness and the size and spacing of the holes drilled in the glass for the original hardware. (Click to see pull handle options.)

    Sink and Vanity Updates

The sink and vanity open up even more options for an easy glowup. A great place to start is the vanity counter. Empty it, clean it, reduce its contents, and arrange what remains in tasteful groupings intermingled with one or two purely decorative pieces. A vanity can be refinished, but an easier makeover option is changing out the knobs, pulls, hinges, and other cabinet hardware . The vanity mirror is included in this area, and it can be decorated with:

  • A DIY frame added to the wall around it.
  • Wall sconces on each side or perhaps a string of lights.
  • Stenciling around its perimeter.
  • Back lighting if it is installed standing out from the wall.

  • Some TLC for the Windows

If you’re fortunate enough to have a window in your bathroom, consider making the most of the natural lighting it offers. If no-one can see in the window, consider giving it a thorough cleaning and eliminating the window treatment entirely. If privacy is an issue, you can do this but also add a film that obscures the glass. For those who prefer to stick with traditional curtains or blinds, purchase a new product that features a trending color, pattern, or material.
