4 Hinged Shower Door Options for Today’s Bathroom Designs
5th Jun 2025
Swinging shower doors offer timeless beauty and simple operation, as well as versatility. Depending on your shower enclosure design, they can operate on pivot hinges or side mount hinges that are either wall mount or glass to glass depending on the enclosure’s layout. As long as there is plenty of clearance around the shower entrance to allow the door to swing open freely, this is a terrific option for bathrooms large and small. Let’s look at four distinct hinged shower door options.
In- Line Door and Panel
The in-line door and panel configuration is popular for shower-only stalls as well as tub and shower combinations. It can be part of a luxurious glass enclosure, but it can also be used to replace a curtain on a simple bathtub with a faucet and shower head. Making this switch will instantly dress up the bathing area and the whole bathroom. Features of an in-line door and panel setup include:
- Door panel hinged to either the bathroom wall or the adjacent piece of fixed glass.
- Stationary piece of glass next to and “in line” with the swinging door.
- If needed, one or more additional pieces of fixed glass meeting the other section at right angles to finish off the enclosure.
An in-line door and panel can also make up one wall of a right angle corner shower.
Neo-Angle Corner Shower
On the right angle corner showers mentioned above, all walls connect with each other and the bathroom walls at 90 degree angles. Neo-angle corner showers have a different design, but they also include a hinged door. A typical stall of this type has two fixed panels attached with clamps and secured to the walls of the bathroom corner at right angles. These stop short of meeting each other to form a square and are instead joined by a swinging door attached to one of the fixed panels with a 135 degree glass-to-glass hinge like this. Neo-angle enclosures are a nice alternative if a right angle corner shower would extend out too far, but they also offer an appealing look in their own right.
Single Door
Many bathrooms have either a tub/shower combo or a stall built largely from glass. However, in other bathrooms the shower – whether large or small – has a relatively small entrance that only needs a single door. Often a clear glass panel is chosen, which helps keep the bathroom’s atmosphere open and roomy. These doors are attached with wall mount hinges such as this one.
French Doors
There is yet another option for right angle corner showers and tub/shower combos alike: double doors. Also known as French doors, this layout has a few appealing features:
- Double doors offer a wide entrance and greater access to the entire bathtub, which can helpful for bathing children.
- The look of French doors is eye-catching and decorative.
These doors can also be used on a right angle corner shower in lieu of an in-line door and panel.
