Shower Designs for a Bathroom Remodel
26th Oct 2023
Shower designs can make or break bathroom remodels because the shower is such a large fixture. Thanks to modern innovations you have lots of options to pick from, and there are lovely glass shower configurations for bathrooms large and small. Check out 4 of our favorite design ideas and consider whether one is right for your space. Remember that Glass Simple has you covered for frameless glass shower hardware and more!
1. Embrace the simple beauty of a shower screen.
The first of our featured shower designs is a simple but lovely product: the shower screen. A shower screen is definitely a minimalist approach to water containment. Paired with proper waterproofing and drainage, a shower screen can be a simple, chic, and cost-conscious option. By definition, a shower screen is a lone piece of glass installed in a shower area to block water and provide separation from the rest of the room. Some screens are stationary and attached to an adjoining wall with clamps – click here to see an example. Others are attached to the wall with operable hinges and can swing open. This is a nice feature if you’re putting the screen on a bathtub where you will also be bathing an infant or assisting a toddler.
2. Go glamorous with a custom “all glass” shower enclosure.
On the opposite end of the shower designs spectrum, you can create a glass shower enclosure with more of a maximalist approach. Working with a custom glass shop, you can equip a large bathroom with a separate “shower room” with all walls and a door made of glass. The shower area and the bathroom overall will look and feel bright, open, and airy. Choose an unobtrusive hardware finish like polished nickel – see example here – or go for something eye-catching such as satin brass. With a more dramatic finish, each piece of hardware functions as an accent item on the enclosure.
3. Take a cost-effective and environmentally conscious approach by enclosing your existing tub/shower combo with glass.
In most situations you can have glass added to tub/shower designs that are already in place, rather than tearing them out and starting over. Possibilities include:
4. Be space efficient with rolling barn style doors.
Rolling barn style shower door designs (also known as frameless sliders) unite some of the best features of bypass doors and frameless shower construction. Unlike bypass doors, which are semi-frameless, rolling barn style shower doors are fully frameless. This makes cleaning simpler, provides a better view of the shower tile, and effectively brings your shower area in line with today’s trends. However, frameless enclosures with one or more swinging door panels require clearance around the shower entrance for the door to swing out into the bathroom. Rolling shower doors, on the other hand, take up no more space than a shower curtain. Click here to see the type of hardware used on a frameless slider.
