What Hardware Is Needed for a Frameless In-Line Shower Enclosure?
7th Jan 2025
Are you considering replacing your shower curtain with glass
and metal? Or moving to something more up-to-date than your old framed bypass
doors? We’ll go over the metal components you’ll likely need for an enclosure
with a hinged door and a fixed panel. These items are usually available in
various styles and finishes, and your choices will give the enclosure its
particular character and charm.
Clamps for the Fixed Panel
On an in-line enclosure, there is at least one piece of stationary glass next to the door panel. Some enclosures also have one or two return panels that meet the bathroom walls at 90 degrees and complete the stall. For a frameless look, these panels should be attached with small clamps. Even these little components will affect the shower’s vibe. Clamps can either have square edges or, alternatively, a beveled profile. Square edge clamps are frequently chosen for modern style spaces, while beveled edges are more traditional.
Door Hinges
The door panel is either hinged to the glass beside it or to the tiled shower wall on the other side. Be sure to order appropriate hinges for your situation. Wall mount hinges are suitable for hinging a glass door to a tiled wall, while glass to glass hinges work for attaching a swinging door to the adjacent glass wall. When ordering hinges, also make sure they are right for:
Door Handles
A shower door is typically equipped with some sort of knob or handle. Single or back-to-back pull handles are one of the most popular picks. They are ergonomic and offered in looks ranging from understated to ladder style to Baroque. Alternatively, a towel bar can be installed to provide both a storage option and something to hold while pulling the door open. There are also towel bar/pull handle combos that have a pull handle on the inside and a towel bar on the outside. Finally, some homeowners prefer to use as little metal as possible. In this case, a knob or small finger pull is an excellent choice.
Optional Pieces of Hardware
We’ve covered the key metal components typically used on an in-line door and panel enclosure. However, there are other optional pieces that you may wish to include.
